After the trip to Italy I have changed my ideas on the future of my flying. FLYER you have a lot to answer for.

I knew I would enjoy the trip to Italy, but not as much as I did. It has led me to start studying for the IMC rating, which I will then use as to help me in touring mode.

However, I enjoy the grass roots side of aviation far too much to abandon ship. So, what to do?

Coincidentally, a share has become available near to me, in an aircraft that I have drooled over since the first day I saw it. It got me thinking and today I went and flew her.

My first ever flight in a biplane.

My first ever flight in an open cockpit.

My first time upside down (several times Very Happy ) in an open cockpit biplane.

No artificial horizon, just look outside.

I am still trying to put the experience into words. Short stubby wings, incredibly so to my eyes, afford a great view either side. The bracing on the wings adds that certain something. A steep turn is done through the seat of your pants, the buffet at maximum rate is persuasive, yet not unkind.

I will admit to a certain feeling of being, shall we say "scared", nay apprehensive about turning upside down in an open cockpit - that is now cured!! Amazing feeling. Even the squirt of avgas in the face at the bottom of the loop is grin enhancing.

The guy selling has bought a Pitts and says the elevators are light - correct.

He also says the ailerons are heavy; he clearly hasn't flown a 152 recently

In the cruise she is stable and the exposure to the elements is awesome - yeah ok so I need certifying.

Landing her (taildragger) is...... tricky, but I am sure after quite a few hours I will eventually crack it. I am going to have damn good fun trying!!

The last sentence says it all. I have fallen in love and will soon have a share in something fun, aerobatic and different. A little shiny red biplane. Cool. The annual is to be done first and then a new challenge begins; I don't underestimate that challenge, but it's gonna be Fun.

So, anyone want to buy a share in a 152 Aerobat? Please!!

Now to work out how to appoach the touring side. Anyone got a cheap share going in an IFR equipped tourer? Though I will wait until the IMC is in my pocket, when I will have more idea of what type I want.

Just got to work out how to stop grinning inanely - my dreams will be sweet ones tonight
